The Abyss: Still holds up, but that ending tho?!

Okay, so last night a few of us finally got around to watching The Abyss! I know, I know, we're late to the party, but honestly, the hype is real! The underwater scenes were SO intense, I was holding my breath right along with Bud and Lindsey. Ed Harris and Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio absolutely killed it. Like, you totally felt the tension and their complicated relationship, even when they were screaming at each other through comms. The whole claustrophobia thing? Nailed it. But, okay, let's talk about the ending. I'm torn! On the one hand, the NTIs were visually stunning and the whole message about humanity destroying itself was kinda powerful. But on the other hand, it felt a little...out there? Like, we’re watching this gritty, suspenseful thriller, and then BAM! Aliens with healing powers. Idk, maybe I'm just too cynical. So, my question is this: Did the ending work for you guys? Did it elevate the movie to something more profound, or did it feel tacked on and kinda cheesy? I'm genuinely curious to hear different perspectives! Also, anyone else low-key terrified of deep sea diving now? lol And ps, anyone know if the extended cut is worth checking out? I heard it adds more context to certain things.
