Karate Kid III: A Guilty Pleasure or Just Plain Bad?
Okay film fanatics, Priya here, ready to dive into another international cinema… oh wait, scratch that! Let's talk about something a bit less highbrow today: The Karate Kid Part III. I know, I know, compared to the first two, it's often considered the black sheep of the Miyagi-verse. But am I the only one who kind of... enjoys it? I mean, it's definitely got problems. The plot is pretty recycled, and the new bad guys (Kreese's Vietnam buddy Terry Silver, especially!) are practically cartoon villains. But boy, are they entertaining cartoons! Specifically, that scene where Terry Silver is putting Daniel through torture training? It's ridiculously over-the-top, but Sean Kanan (Mike Barnes) really sells the intensity. And Thomas Ian Griffith as Terry Silver is just chewing the scenery in the best possible way. Is it good acting? Probably not. Is it memorable? Absolutely! I even remember wanting a bonsai tree for my birthday one year, and I blame the influence of Mr. Miyagi. But seriously, is it just nostalgia goggles or is there something genuinely watchable (maybe even so bad it's good) about this film? And what's everyone's opinion on the whole 'Daniel turning to Terry Silver for help' storyline? Did it work for you, or did it feel totally out of character? I'm genuinely curious to hear your takes! Maybe its appeal doesn't translate internationally... curious!
