Road House (1989) - Okay, Dalton's PhD makes EVERYTHING make sense now

Alright, so I just finished watching Road House (1989), and WOW. First off, I had NO idea what to expect. I'm going through some of the 'classics' and this was suggested. I gotta say, it was a wild ride. Like, you think all these guys are just dumb muscleheads throwing people through windows, but then Dalton pulls out some philosophical jujitsu? I was dead. Okay, so here's my theory: Dalton's PhD (which, btw, they casually drop like it's no big deal?!) IS THE KEY to the whole movie. It's not just about beating guys up, it's about managing chaos. Think about it - his rules are all about de-escalation and creating order. "Be nice" until it's time to NOT be nice. He's not just fighting; he's applying like, conflict resolution techniques learned in school. Even his 'pain doesn't hurt' thing? Sounds like some kind of zen philosophy he picked up in academia. Maybe that was during a semester abroad, learning from a guru on a mountain top? Maybe he needed a new identity after a scandal, and the bars and bouncer gig was a way to be 'off the grid'. And what about Doc? She's a doctor, obviously educated, and she's instantly drawn to him. I think she sees past the bouncer facade and recognizes the intellectual underneath. She's not just into him because he's kicking ass, there's something deeper there, right? I mean, why else would a small town doc be interested in a guy who looks like he lives at a gym? And Brad Wesley... he's just a typical small-town tyrant, but Dalton's knowledge is his secret weapon. Wesley is a bully who takes what he wants, confident that his money and henchmen are enough, but Dalton outsmarts him at every turn. It's like a chess match, except instead of rooks and pawns, it’s mullet-wearing goons and exploding boats. Honestly, it kinda elevated the whole movie for me. It's not JUST a dumb action flick (though, let's be real, the action is awesome); it's a surprisingly clever story about a highly educated guy using his skills to clean up a messed-up town. Now I need to rewatch it and look for more clues!
