Turner & Hooch: A slobbery good time (or at least, a decent one)

Alright, alright, alright. Let's talk Turner & Hooch. Remember that one? Tom Hanks, pre-Oscar-bait, fighting crime with a Dogue de Bordeaux that sheds more than my sanity during tax season. It's not gonna win any awards for originality, plot-wise it's about as deep as a puddle - but man, is it quotable. "I can't believe I used to color my hair. What was I thinking?" Classic Turner, dealing with Hooch's…everything. The scene where Hooch destroys Turner's apartment? Comedy gold. Utter, utter chaos. And the way Turner slowly loses it? Perfect. You really buy into Hanks' frustration, even if the whole premise stretches believability further than Stretch Armstrong after a triple espresso. The chemistry between Hanks and Hooch (Beasley, RIP) is what really sells it, though. It legit felt like he hated the dog in the most endearing way possible. "He's an animal, people!" Now, I'm not gonna lie, the ending gets a little...sappy. And maybe the 'mystery' isn't exactly Silence of the Lambs level intrigue. But for a late-80s cop-buddy-dog flick? It's a solid choice. Good for a comfy night in, provided you don't mind a few predictable plot points and a whole lotta drool. Definitely one of those movies where you're like, 'Oh yeah, I forgot about that part!' Also, Mare Winningham is in it - she was good, but the dog stole the movie LOL. Overall I would give this movie a 7/10, great movie, worth a watch! I think I will watch it again. Maybe I will watch the series, too. But I am fearful that the series will ruin my mental image of the OG flick. Oh well, can't win them all!
