Dream Child -- Okay, but seriously, what WAS that?
Alright, alright, so I just finished "A Nightmare on Elm Street: The Dream Child." Look, I'm a Freddy fan, I admit it. I've seen 'em all, some multiple times. But this one...man. It's just...weird, right? Like, even for Freddy, it's out there. Freddy using Alice's unborn baby to get back into the real world? Kinda genius, kinda messed up, definitely pushing the boundaries of what makes sense in this franchise. The whole comic book scene? The Alice-as-nun hallucination? I don't know, it felt like they were throwing everything at the wall to see what would stick. And some of it did! The effects were still pretty cool, even if a little dated now. I did like the nods back to the original, too. But something about it just felt tonally off from the others. Maybe it's because it gets SO dark with the abortion clinic scene (yikes), then tries to get all lighthearted with Freddy's one-liners? It's a weird mix. And the ending? Alice just...absorbs all the souls Freddy had? That felt super anticlimactic! Like, after all that build-up, that's how it ends? I'm not saying it's bad, per se. There's definitely some creative stuff going on, and Robert Englund is always great. But it sits towards the bottom of my Freddy ranking. Anyone else feel this way, or am I totally alone on this one? Did I miss something obvious?
