Elm Street 5 - Freddy's a Pediatrician?! 😅
Okay, so I finally got around to watching "A Nightmare on Elm Street: The Dream Child" and, wow, it's... something. I've been on a bit of a classic horror kick lately, and while I appreciate the concept of Freddy trying to come back through Alice's baby, I'm not sure this one totally landed. It felt like they were REALLY trying to push the boundaries of what they could do with special effects, and some of it was just... bizarre, even for Freddy. Like, the comic book death? That was wild! Kind of funny, but wild. I did like Alice as a final girl, though. Lisa Wilcox brought a certain strength to the role that I appreciated. And the whole dream warrior concept was pretty cool, even if it got a little silly at times. But honestly, what was with all the '80s fashion?! Even in the dream sequences, everyone was dressed like they were starring in a music video. Maybe that's part of the charm, I don't know. Speaking of charm... baby Freddy puppet. Thoughts? But here's my big question: did anyone else find the whole Amanda Krueger backstory kind of... problematic? I mean, I get why they did it, to give Freddy some origin story, but it felt a little clunky and almost excused his behavior, which I'm not entirely comfortable with. It really kinda took me out of the movie. I'm curious what others think about that. Was it a necessary addition or did it muddy the waters of what Freddy Krueger really stands for, which is essentially, just pure, unadulterated evil? Overall, not my favorite Elm Street movie, but definitely one of the weirder ones! What are your favorite (or least favorite) parts of this one? And seriously, let's talk about that Amanda Krueger retcon!
