Halloween 5: The Revenge of...what exactly?

Okay, so last night I went deep down the Halloween rabbit hole again. This time it was Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers. Honestly, "revenge" is doing some heavy lifting in that title. Who exactly is Michael getting revenge on? Jamie? For surviving? Loomis? For… trying to stop him from murdering everyone? It's flimsy, man. Anyway, the whole psychic link thing between Jamie and Michael? Still weird, still kinda dumb, but I guess it gives them a plot. I gotta say, the clown outfit scene was genuinely creepy, though. And the laundry chute escape? Classic, if a bit ridiculous. Like, come on, the dude is huge. There are so many things that are just...off, too. Like, what was up with those two bumbling cops? Were they supposed to be funny? They just ended up being annoying and taking screen time away from, you know, the actual horror. And Loomis! Don't get me wrong, Donald Pleasence is a legend, but he's just shouting and sweating his way through this one. He seems genuinely unhinged, even for Loomis standards. It's hard to tell if it's good acting or if he was just tired of making these movies. And the ending! Oh god, the ending. The man in black? The Cult of Thorn or whatever? That’s where they lost me. I get that they were trying to set up a whole new mythology, but it just felt so out of place and convoluted. I mean, Halloween is supposed to be about simple, primal fear. Not some ancient Celtic curse. I swear I recall reading that was later scrapped, but I might be misremembering. Overall, Halloween 5 is...well, it's a Halloween movie. There are kills, there's Michael, there's a lot of screaming. But it's definitely one of the weaker entries in the franchise. If you're a completist like me, you kinda have to watch it, but don't expect any groundbreaking horror. More like background noise while you're carving pumpkins. I still had fun, but I wouldn’t rate this much higher than a 5/10. Time to find a good movie to watch! Suggestions, anyone?
