Okay, Police Academy 6...Not the Worst, But...
Alright so, I'm plowing through these 'classics' as you guys suggested. This time it was Police Academy 6: City Under Siege. Honestly? It wasn't awful. I mean, it was definitely a product of its time. The whole 'gang takes over the city' thing felt kinda generic action movie plot A to Z. I did laugh a few times, though. The Hightower sections are always kinda funny with how big he is, and him somehow being gentle is a good running gag. Also, I kinda digged the whole Tackleberry obsessing over heavy armory thing. He's like a kid in a candy store with guns, which is... concerning, but funny in this context. However, I have to say, I missed some of the older faces. The main guys are still good but the villain's don't have nearly the charisma of Mauser or Harris. I'm also not sure if I liked how much they relied on slapstick and pratfalls. Some of it was clever, like when they were in the art gallery or whatever, but some felt kinda lazy, ya know? Like they had a quota for faceplants they needed to meet. I did like how they each brought unique skills, like Jones beatboxing, but I just think the film as a whole was pretty predictable. I new from the get go that they would win with no issues. The villains presented no real challenge to the main cast. Overall, a perfectly serviceable comedy. Definitely not gonna make my top 100, but if it popped up on TV on a Sunday afternoon, I probably wouldn't change the channel at first. On to the next 'classic'! Any suggestions?
