Major League: Still Holds Up, Even If I've Seen It 1000 Times

Yo, movie peeps! Nathanmovies here, fueled by lukewarm pizza and another late night. Tonight's victim? Major League (1989). I swear, I've seen this movie more than I've seen my own family... okay, maybe not, but it's damn close. And you know what? It still makes me laugh. The whole premise is so ridiculously 80s – evil owner trying to tank the team so she can move 'em to Miami... or was it Florida? Either way, classic stuff. Jake Taylor (Tom Berrenger) is just the perfect washed up catcher. And Willie Mays Hayes! Wesley Snipes before he went all blade on us. "I run like Hayes, I hit like Mays." Pure gold. I crack up every time. And Cerrano? "Hats for bats. Keep bats warm." What a quote. It's just relentlessly quotable. I always wondered if the actor was really into voodoo or if it was just for the character, haha. Oh and the one-liners, especially Bob Uecker's, are just the best. "Just a bit outside"... iconic! There are some bits that aged... less gracefully, maybe. Like, a lot of the stuff with the Lou Brown character feels a little... idk, cheesy now? But overall, the chemistry between the cast is undeniable. You really believe this ragtag bunch of misfits could somehow pull it together. And the final game? I still get kinda hyped, even knowing exactly what's coming. Yeah, it's predictable, and yeah, it's probably not high art or anything. But Major League is just pure, unadulterated fun. If you need a good laugh, and you haven't seen it (somehow), give it a watch. Just don't blame me if you find yourself quoting it for the next week. Okay, back to the couch! Anyone got recommendations for tomorrow night? Hit me up!
