'Always' - Is Dorinda REALLY over Pete?

Okay, so I just re-watched 'Always' (don't judge, sometimes you just need some Spielbergian schmaltz, even if he didn't direct it!). And I've got a theory brewing - Dorinda says she's gonna move on, right? That she's not just stuck in the past mourning Pete. But I'm not convinced. Hear me out. The whole movie hinges on Pete being this amazing, almost mythical pilot. But Dorinda, bless her heart, is practically worshipping a ghost the entire time. Even when Ted comes along, it feels like she's more infatuated with the idea of Pete's legacy than actually falling for Ted himself. Think about that scene where she's talking to Pete's empty plane, confessing everything. That's not the behavior of someone moving on, that's full-blown grief with a side of hero-worship. And let's be real, Ted is basically a Pete-lite version anyway! Younger, maybe a little less reckless, but he's still got that pilot 'thing' going on. So I kinda think Dorinda is settling to try and fill the void that Pete has left. I'm not saying she can't be happy with Ted, but a part of me wonders if she will always, pardon the pun, be chasing the ghost of Pete. Maybe they just needed to work through their grief a bit more before bringing in the romantic angle. Anybody else picking up what I'm putting down? Or am I just overthinking a perfectly decent '80s romance? Maybe I need another beer...
