Society - Okay, WTF Did I Just Watch?!

Okay, so last night me and the crew watched "Society" (1989) and... I'm still weirded out. Like, seriously, what was THAT?! I went in blind, never even heard of this thing, and now I'm questioning my entire existence, lol. Bill's paranoia was kinda relatable at first, right? Feeling like you don't fit in with your family? But then it gets SO INSANE! That whole 'shunting' scene at the end... I literally had to pause it because I was dying laughing/gagging. Was that practical effects or what? It looked so GROSS and yet... kinda impressive? Someone please tell me I wasn't the only one who found it disturbingly fascinating. My big question is... what was the POINT? Like, yeah, commentary on the rich or whatever, but it was SO over-the-top. Was the director just trying to be as shocking as possible? Or is there something deeper I'm missing? Also, anyone know who directed it? I'm curious to know the mind of a person who could dream this stuff up! Seriously, someone break this down for me. Was it genius? Was it trash? Was it genius trash?! I'm so effing confused!
