DBZ: Dead Zone - Underrated Gem or Just Nostalgia?

Alright Z-Fighters (and lurking casuals!), just rewatched Dead Zone for probably the millionth time. Still hits that early DBZ itch perfectly, but I gotta ask: is it actually good, or am I just blinded by nostalgia? I mean, the animation is a little rough around the edges compared to later movies, but that hand-drawn look has a certain charm, right? Specifically, I'm digging the pacing. It throws you right into the action with Garlic Jr.'s crew causing chaos, and Gohan getting kidnapped sets the stakes immediately. No wasted time! Plus, Piccolo's team-up with Goku, even if begrudgingly, is always a treat. Seeing those two work together before they kinda became besties later on always has this tense, awkward quality that makes it feel unique. But here's where I get conflicted. Gohan's power level in this thing is straight-up bonkers. He's like 4 years old, and he's already unleashing energy blasts that rival Goku's Kamehameha? It's cool, sure, but does it kinda cheapen the tension? Like, Garlic Jr. has this whole immortality plan, but mini-Gohan is a walking deus ex machina waiting to happen. Anyone else feel this way, or am I overthinking it? Finally, Garlic Jr himself. Is he a good villian? I always liked his design, very demonic, but he feels like a stepping stone to more developed villains later on. Ultimately, yeah, loved re-watching but wanted to get your thoughts and feelings.
