Great Balls of Fire! - More Wild Than Scary, But Still a Fun Watch

Okay, so I know what you're thinking: Jerry Lee Lewis? Horror? Jessica, have you lost it?! Hear me out. "Great Balls of Fire!" isn't technically horror, but the wildness of Jerry Lee's life, especially considering the time, is kinda terrifying in its own way. Plus, it's got Winona Ryder and Dennis Quaid going full throttle – how can I resist? Quaid is INSANE as Jerry Lee. He captures the absolute ego and raw talent so well. Some of the concert scenes are genuinely electric, and the pure audacity of the whole Myra Gale Brown situation...whew! It's definitely a 'did that really happen?' kind of movie. Maybe not scary in the jumpscare way, but the societal outrage and the damage to his career are a different kind of horror. That scene where he's pounding the piano so hard it catches on fire? Legendary. Winona as Myra is also really good as well. She's young and naive here, but you can also see the conflict she feels about being with him. It's a complicated dynamic, to say the least! It ain't a perfect movie by any means; pacing feels off at times, and it definitely sanitizes some darker aspects of the story. Still, it's a crazy rock and roll ride. Honestly, if you want something that'll make you clutch your pearls and question the sanity of the 1950s (in a campy, entertaining way), give "Great Balls of Fire!" a shot. It's less "The Exorcist" and more "What WAS in the water back then?!?" type of horror. Let me know what you think if you watch it! #JerryLeeLewis #WinonaRyder #DennisQuaid #Biopic #RockNRoll #MovieReview
