"Three Fugitives" - Underrated Rom-Com Adjacent Gem? Hear Me Out...

Okay, so I know "Three Fugitives" isn't technically a rom-com. I get it. Armed robbery is generally frowned upon in meet-cutes. But hear me out! I think there's a definite strain of unexpected found-family-esque romance in this thing, and it's criminally underrated (pun intended, obvi). Like, Danny Glover and Martin Short have INCREDIBLE chemistry. It's not romantic romance, duh, but the way they slowly start to care about each other is totally giving me the feels. And I think the whole 'kid bonds them' trope is always a winner in my books. Plus, Meg Ryan is almost in it (okay, she's just a photo, but still!). Seriously, think about it: Lucas (Glover) is jaded and cynical, Perry (Short) is a nervous wreck desperate to do anything for his daughter. The entire dynamic is like a rom-com premise, just with higher stakes (and more police sirens). The scene where Lucas teaches Perry how to be a 'tough guy' so he can get his daughter back? Comedy GOLD. It's like a makeover montage, but with more yelling and less glitter (though honestly, a little glitter might have improved things). And the growing protective instinct Lucas has for both Perry and his daughter? Pure heart-melting material, even if it's buried under layers of stoicism. Maybe I'm reading into things too much, and I'll admit I do that a lot. But I honestly think that if you squint (and maybe fast-forward through the super-violent bits - yes, there are some), there's a really sweet and surprisingly heartwarming story about connection and sacrifice hidden under all the 'fugitive' stuff. It's like a rom-com disguised as an action movie... a really weird, dark, and slightly problematic rom-com. But still! Anyone else see what I'm seeing? Or am I completely alone in my weird "Three Fugitives" rom-com-adjacent theory? Tell me I'm not crazy!
