Just Watched GoodFellas - Whoa!
Okay, so I finally got around to watching GoodFellas. I know, I'm super late to the party, but better late than never, right? I honestly didn't know anything about it going in, except that it's some kind of mob movie. The whole 'real story' angle is pretty wild. This Henry Hill guy had a crazy life! I gotta say, the way they showed him getting pulled into that world as a kid was so well done. Like, you almost understand why he'd want that life, even though you KNOW it's wrong. Who directed this thing? They crushed it. Ray Liotta (RIP) was fantastic! And Joe Pesci...wow. Dude is terrifying. That scene in the bar where he's telling the story and then flips out because Henry is laughing? I was legit on the edge of my seat. Such an intense moment. I wasn't expecting the movie to be so funny at parts, too. There's a lot of dark humor in there. The ending, though... kinda bummed me out. All that paranoia and backstabbing. Is this usually how these kinda things go?! It felt kinda abrupt or something, like, things just spiraled out of control FAST. Jimmy Conway (Robert De Niro, I just looked it up!) was a fascinating character, too. So calm and collected, but you knew he was capable of anything. That whole airport heist seemed insane! I loved how they showed the passage of time with the montages and the narration. It kept things moving. Felt like I watched a whole lifetime pass by in just a couple hours. Overall, I really enjoyed it. It's definitely not a light and fluffy watch, but it's gripping from beginning to end. I can see why people consider it a classic. I need a break from mob movies for a bit, but I'm glad I finally ticked this one off my list. Thoughts?
