Edward Scissorhands: Was Kim Really That Naive?

Okay, so I just rewatched Edward Scissorhands with the twins last night (they LOVED it, surprisingly, though I did fast forward a few of the juicier scenes, haha!). It got me thinking about Kim, Winona Ryder's character. We're supposed to believe she's completely innocent and kind, right? But... I'm not so sure. I have a theory that Kim knew WAY more about what was going on than she let on, especially towards the end. Think about it. She's initially terrified of Edward, which is totally understandable. But she warms up to him REALLY quickly once he starts, like, doing her hair and making ice sculptures. It's like she sees him as a novelty, a project. And that scene where she sets him up to get caught breaking into her house? I know she claims she was trying to protect him, but it felt calculated to me. My theory is she liked the attention Edward brought to her and resented him when that attention became negative and threatened her relationship (or, well, potential relationship) with Jim. Then, fast forward to the end. She lies to everyone to protect Edward, which could be genuine. But I think part of it is guilt! She knows she played a part in everything that happened. Maybe she even subconsciously wanted Edward to be “outed” so that everyone knew he was a fraud. I'm not saying she's a bad person, but I don't think she's the angelic figure the movie paints her as. What do you all think? Am I totally off base here, or is there something to this theory? And PS: I know it's an old movie, but that rooftop scene when she gives Edward the kiss? Still gets me every time! Maybe I'm just a sucker for a good cry, lol.
