Home Alone: Beyond the Booby Traps - Let's Talk Fits!
Okay, so I just rewatched Home Alone (as you DO every year, right?) and while the slapstick comedy is always gold, I was REALLY paying attention to the costumes this time. Like, Kevin's red and white striped sweater? Iconic! And honestly, a timeless Christmas look. I'm kinda tempted to find one for myself this year. But beyond Kevin (bless his resourceful little heart), I was thinking about Kate McCallister's style. She's constantly put together, even when she's freaking out about leaving her son behind in another country – which, relatable, but still! That green suit she wears at the airport is chic AF. And the scene where she's trying to get back home and she is sitting in a cab? A bright red coat and scarf. Such a power move! Plus, it's a signal to the audience that the woman is on a mission. And then you have the Wet Bandits. While their outfits are pretty basic criminal-wear (dark colors, practical shoes), the contrast between their grubby looks and the pristine Christmas-y decor of the houses they're targeting is actually kinda brilliant. It visually reinforces their role as the disruptors of holiday cheer. Honestly, I think even though it's a comedy, the costuming plays a bigger role than people give it credit for in setting the mood and telling the story. Thoughts? Anyone have a theory about why Marv always wore that beanie lol? Was it just to protect him from the paint cans?
