Home Alone: Still Holds Up After All These Years?
Okay, so I just re-watched Home Alone with the kids (again!), and it's still hilarious. I remember watching it as a kid myself and just being in absolute stitches at Kevin's antics. Now, seeing it through a parent's eyes, it's a little more terrifying, lol. Like, how did they REALLY forget him?! I get the chaos of getting everyone to the airport, but still...poor Kevin! My kids, especially my youngest, were cracking up at all the booby traps. The paint cans swinging down the stairs are always a classic, and I think they really got into when Marv stepped on the Christmas ornaments barefoot! I did have to explain about the iron to the face, making sure they knew that was all movie magic and NOT something to try at home, haha. Honestly, the whole thing is just pure slapstick at its finest. Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern are comedy gold. It's interesting, because even with all the humor, there's also this sweet undercurrent about family and loneliness, especially with Old Man Marley. That scene in the church where he and Kevin talk? Always gets me a little choked up, I'm not gonna lie. Plus, the way Kevin decorates the house and sets the table for Christmas dinner, even though he's alone, is actually kinda touching. I think it's a good reminder, especially this time of year, to be grateful for what you have and to reach out to people who might be feeling isolated. Anyway, just wanted to share my thoughts after another viewing. What are your favorite parts of Home Alone? And more importantly, have you ever accidentally left a kid behind? Please tell me I'm not the only one with that fear! (Just kidding... mostly!)
