BTTF III: Underrated Stuntwork and Rootin' Tootin' Time Travel!

Alright, so I just re-watched Back to the Future Part III for like, the millionth time, and man, it still holds up. I think it gets slept on compared to the first two, but there's some seriously impressive stuff in it, stunt-wise. The whole train sequence at the end? Forget the CGI, that's pure practical effects and I dig it. You KNOW someone was actually hanging off that train for real (or a dummy that LOOKS real, haha). And I gotta say, Doc Brown really shines in this one. He goes full-on Wild West blacksmith scientist, and it's hilarious. The whole romance with Clara Clayton felt a little tacked on at first, but it ends up working. Christopher Lloyd's acting sells it, you know? Plus, it gives him something more than just 'crazy inventor' to do. I know some people whine that the Western setting is a bit of a genre shift, but I think it gave the filmmakers a chance to do something different. The horseback chases, the saloon brawls, the quick-draw duel... It's all good, clean, slightly goofy fun. Plus, Marty's Clint Eastwood impersonation is surprisingly decent. There are better Westerns, sure, but for a time travel flick, it's a solid mashup. I will say though, I always wondered why they didn't just try to find another lightning rod, LOL. But hey, gotta have that train sequence, right? Overall, BTTF III is a fun conclusion to a great trilogy. Definitely worth a re-watch if you're in the mood for some old-school action and a feel-good story.
