Pretty Woman: Still Holds Up, But That Ending Tho...

Okay, so I just rewatched Pretty Woman for like, the hundredth time. Gotta admit, even after all these years, it's still got that Cinderella charm. Richard Gere is undeniably dreamy, and Julia Roberts? Come on, she's radiant. But something always bugs me about the ending, and I wanted to see if anyone else feels the same. Specifically, when Edward climbs up the fire escape. Like, I get it, it's supposed to be romantic and a 'saving' gesture, right? Overcoming his fear of heights and all that jazz. But in 2024, it feels... a little stalker-ish? I mean, he's literally showing up unannounced at her apartment. It's played for laughs and applause, but if a random millionaire did that to me, I'd be calling the cops, not swooning! And don't even get me STARTED on the 'saving her from prostitution' trope. I know it was the 90s but ugh. It always detracts from how Vivian is a smart, resourceful, and independent woman who chose to use her abilities as she saw fit. I guess this is just me overthinking things after WAY too many rewatches. What does everyone else think? Am I just being overly critical, or does that ending feel a little off to anyone else? Maybe they should've just had her go back to finish her GED.
