Predator 2: Underrated or Just Plain Crazy?

Alright, fellow Gen X'ers and anyone else who appreciates a good dose of 90s action cheese, let's talk Predator 2. I saw it in the theater back in the day, and honestly, I was a little disappointed at the time. I mean, how do you follow up the original with Arnold Schwarzenegger battling a freakin' alien in the jungle? It felt…different. But watching it again recently, man, it's grown on me. Danny Glover stepping into the lead role? Solid. He brought that Mel Gibson Lethal Weapon kinda intensity, but dialed down a notch. And the setting in LA during some fictional drug war? Wild. The subway scene? Classic. You just don't see action movies like that anymore, so grimy and over the top. Plus, you gotta love Bill Paxton practically inventing his iconic persona in this. Even if that voodoo gang was a little...yeah, a little much. I think part of why I didn't appreciate it initially was the departure from the original's vibe. It wasn't the 'Nam-esque survival flick. This was 'Nam meets urban decay, a total comic book, in the best way. It's not citizen kane, I get it, but Its got this sort of 'Escape from New York' meets 'Aliens' kind of low brow charm thats hard to argue with when you're in the mood for it. Anyone else feel like this flick gets unfairly trashed? I think it's a fun, if flawed, addition to the Predator lore. And that ending? That "we're not the only ones" moment? Pretty cool, even if the execution was a little…well, 90s. What are your thoughts? Is it a worthy sequel, or should it have stayed buried in the jungle?
