Tremors: Overrated Worms or Underrated Schmaltz?

Alright, alright, settle down, creature feature fans. I finally caved and watched Tremors. And honestly? I'm not seeing the fuss. Before you grab your pitchforks, hear me out. Yeah, the practical effects are decent, especially for the time. The Graboids do look kinda cool, in a B-movie kinda way. But let's be real, the whole thing is just... predictable. Val and Earl, our lovable loser heroes, wisecracking their way through monster mayhem? Been there, done that. The jump scares are telegraphed from a mile away, and the 'tense' moments? I was checking my phone more than I was clenching my butt. And don't even get me started on the 'scientific' explanations. Seismology grad student Rhonda LeBeck shows up and suddenly we're supposed to believe these things are related to seismic activity? Give me a break. It felt like they just threw in some pseudo-science buzzwords to sound smart. The Burt Gummer character is admittedly pretty funny, although the 'gun nut saves the day' trope is wearing thin. I did love the scene where they use the bulldozer though, good thinking outside the box. Look, it's not terrible. I chuckled a few times, and the chemistry between Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward is undeniable. But let's not act like Tremors is some groundbreaking cinematic achievement. It's a fun, silly monster movie that's been massively overhyped by nostalgia. I'd rather watch something like 'The Thing' any day of the week. Call me a hater, I don't care. I just think we need to be honest with ourselves. Tremors is fine. It's just...fine. Now, back to my Bergman marathon...
