Kindergarten Cop...Is it JUST me, or...?
Okay, so, I just finished watching Kindergarten Cop again. Yeah, yeah, I know, it's cheesy 90s Arnold at his best/worst (depending on your mood, right?). But like, seriously, is it just me, or does that movie kinda… hold up? I mean, the whole premise is ridiculous, a total fish-out-of-water deal, but Arnold freaking commits. And the kids! They're actually pretty good, not just annoying little plot devices. Though, gotta admit, the ferret scene still makes me cringe a little. What was up with 90s movies and random animal attacks on kids?!? But here's the thing I keep thinking about. That whole bit with the kid who's constantly having nightmares? It's actually kinda…dark? Like, they never really explain why he's so scared. And then Kimble's whole thing about 'It's not a tumor!' Actually comforting the kid. It felt unscripted. Raw. I dunno, maybe I'm overthinking it. It's not like it's Citizen Kane or something, but it has some genuinely touching moments amidst all the explosions and Arnold yelling about discipline. And don't even get me started on Penelope Ann Miller. Such a babe. But also, totally believable as a stressed-out single mom. The chemistry between her and Arnold is surprisingly decent. Probably because she wasn't some bimbo damsel in distress, right? She's got her own stuff going on. Even though it means she's totally dating a drug dealer. So, yeah, Kindergarten Cop. Still fun, still ridiculous, but maybe also a little bit deeper than I remembered. What does everyone else think? Am I alone in this, or does anyone else have a soft spot for this goofball action-comedy? Was I projecting on to it? Discuss!
