Kindergarten Cop: Is It Secretly SUPER Dark?

Okay, so I just finished watching 'Kindergarten Cop' (don't @ me, I'm catching up on the classics!). First off, Arnold Schwarzenegger in a goofy comedy? Who knew! I actually laughed a decent amount. But something kept nagging at me throughout the whole movie. It's supposed to be this lighthearted thing, right? But the whole premise is built on this dude, John Kimble, basically stalking a kindergarten class to find a kid who might be related to a drug lord. That's... a lot to unpack. Like, seriously, he's supposed to be protecting those kids, but also using them as bait? And the whole 'Dominic' storyline? The mom and son are clearly victims of abuse, and Kimble's solution is to, what, just arrest the guy and hope they're okay? We don't even see any follow-up on their well-being! It's brushed aside for more goofy antics. I'm wondering if anyone else noticed how surprisingly messed up the underlying plot is? My theory is that the movie is a way darker comedy than intended or the writers just didn't think it through at all. Maybe it's a commentary on the lengths cops will go to? Or maybe, and this is a stretch, it's a satire of how society glosses over the real problems of child abuse and domestic violence while focusing on, like, a 'tough' cop learning about feelings. I know, I know, it's a kids' movie (sort of), but it just felt weirdly unsettling to me. Anyone else feel this way, or am I just overthinking it? Maybe I've been watching too many detective films shrugs.
