Days of Thunder: More Than Just Vroom Vroom?

Okay, so I just rewatched 'Days of Thunder' and you guys, I have thoughts. I know it's basically 'Top Gun' but with cars, and everyone kind of rags on it for being cheesy and predictable. But hear me out: I think there's a subtle commentary on the nature of talent and ego happening under all that roaring engine noise. Specifically, look at Cole Trickle. He's got raw, undeniable skill. Harry Hogge sees it immediately. But Cole's also a mess. He's cocky, arrogant, and completely self-absorbed. My theory is that the film is lowkey about how talent alone isn't enough. Its about needing guidance, mentorship, and maybe most importantly, humility. That scene where Harry makes him push the tires around? Genius. It's not just about physical fitness, it's about learning respect for the whole process, not just the glory of winning. Think about it - if Cole hadn't crashed and hurt himself, forcing him to confront his limitations and rely on others (like Dr. Claire Lewicki), would he ever have grown as a driver or a person? I am not saying its a deep movie, but I feel like there's more to it than just explosions and Tom Cruise looking intense. I've always liked the love story, I think it adds to the movie! It may not be the best racing movie, but what are your thoughts? Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but I genuinely think there's a layer of character development that gets overlooked because everyone's too busy focusing on the racing scenes (which, admittedly, are pretty awesome). What do you guys think? Am I totally off base here?
