"Bird on a Wire" - Keaton and Gibson, but did the action hold up?
Alright action junkies, anyone else remember "Bird on a Wire"? Mel Gibson and Goldie Hawn, classic 90s combo. The whole 'witness protection gone wrong' thing is a solid setup. Gibson's character Rick is supposed to be this low-key garage owner, but, c'mon, it's Mel Gibson! He's got that crazy glint in his eye the whole time, you KNOW he's gonna flip out eventually. I'm rewatching this now, and while the plot's kinda straightforward, I gotta admit some of the stunt work is pretty impressive for the time. Especially the chase scene through the zoo! Real explosions, practical effects, none of this CGI garbage we get nowadays. Made me wonder how much of that Gibson did himself? He usually threw himself into roles back then. Anyway, my question is, did you guys think the action actually LANDED? Was it believable, or just over-the-top for the sake of it? I'm leaning towards it still being pretty solid, even if some of the plot points are a little silly. Keaton's the bad guy right? Anyone know who directed it? Can't remember but they definitely had a thing for explosions.
