Dick Tracy (1990) - Okay, that was...something else!
Alright, so I finally got around to watching 'Dick Tracy' from 1990. I'm on this kick of watching older movies I somehow missed, and this one was on a list. Honestly? I went in expecting a campy superhero thing, and it was...kinda that, but also... weirder? Like, the visuals were insane. The colors POPPED in a way I wasn't expecting for a movie that old. I kept thinking how good the makeup was, especially on Big Boy Caprice and Pruneface. Those prosthetics were WILD. I'm pretty sure it would scare some kids! Warren Beatty was fine as Dick Tracy, I guess. He was more of a straight man to all the craziness around him, which is probably the point. But Madonna as Breathless Mahoney? Okay, I kind of get why people were obsessed. She was radiating like, pure chaotic energy. That scene where she's trying to seduce Tracy in the club? Cringe, but also, I kinda couldn't look away. And the music! Danny Elfman always kills it. It definitely added to the whole vibe. I will say the plot was a little convoluted. Trying to keep track of all those mob bosses and their weird faces was a challenge. It felt like they were trying to cram a whole comic book series into one movie, and maybe that wasn't the best idea? But overall, I was entertained. It's definitely a unique movie, and I can see why it's considered a cult classic. I wouldn't say it's like, the best movie ever, but it's definitely memorable. Would I recommend it? Eh, if you're looking for something visually interesting and kinda offbeat, give it a shot. Just be prepared for some seriously over-the-top makeup and a plot that might make your head spin!
