Okay, Hear Me Out: DuckTales Movie is Secretly Darker Than We Thought?
Alright, fellow horror hounds! I know, I know, DuckTales: The Movie seems like a weird choice for jessmovienerd, right? But I've been re-watching it (for, uh, research purposes, obviously), and I've got a theory that's been bugging me. What if Dijon, that loveable (and completely incompetent) thief, isn't just comic relief, but a pawn in a much darker game? Think about it: Collie Baba's treasure is cursed, right? We see it grant pretty messed up wishes (seriously, giant cake attack is low-key body horror for kids). What if Merlock, the evil sorcerer, knew about the curse and was intentionally manipulating Dijon to get the lamp? He's clearly playing the long game. Maybe Dijon's constant screw-ups are actually part of Merlock's plan to create chaos, making it easier to snatch the lamp when the time is right. And okay, let's talk about Merlock himself. He's got that whole 'shape-shifting into monstrous creatures' thing going on. That's straight-up horror movie villain material! Plus, his obsessive desire for ultimate power? He's basically a Disneyfied version of every power-hungry demon or warlock we see in actual horror films. Think about it! The movie is marketed to kids, so they downplay the creep factor, but the elements are there. Also, did anyone else think that when Merlock became human again (after his lamp was destroyed) he looked...really sad? Like, not just defeated-villain sad, but genuinely mournful? Maybe he was actually held captive by the talisman all those years? That would be a HUGE twist. I know it sounds like I'm stretching, but imagine if that was the real plot twist all along?! Maybe I'm just reading into things too much because I'm always looking for the dark side of everything (it's a curse, I tell ya!), but I honestly think there's more to DuckTales: The Movie than meets the eye. Let me know what you guys think! Am I totally off base, or am I onto something here? Let's discuss!
