Exorcist III and Fashionably Confused Detectives??

Okay, so I just rewatched Exorcist III (don't judge, it's a spooky season staple!), and while the whole atmosphere is undeniably creepy (that hallway scene, OMG!), I'm kinda stuck on something. What's up with the detective's wardrobe choices in this movie? Like, Lieutenant Kinderman (George C. Scott, RIP) is rocking... well, it's hard to describe. Boxy suits in colors that seem… off? Almost like they're trying to blend in but just end up clashing with everything? Was this a deliberate choice by the costume designer to reflect Kinderman's inner turmoil and maybe his disconnect from the world around him as he grapples with this horrific case? Or was it just, you know, peak 90s dad dressing? I'm genuinely curious. Especially compared to the sleek, almost severe look of the Gemini Killer played by Brad Dourif (who, by the way, is AMAZING in this role). It's such a stark contrast, and I can't help but wonder if it's intentional. And speaking of Dourif's character...even though he's mostly restrained in a hospital bed, his clothes -- those drab patient gowns and the very occasional glimpse of his own attire -- somehow add to his unsettling presence. They feel…too normal? Does that make sense? Like, the banality of his appearance is almost more frightening than if he were dressed in some elaborate villain costume or something. Anyone else notice this or am I just overthinking things cause I'm obsessed with this kind of stuff? Anyways, let me know your thoughts! Fashionably yours, Sophia. xx
