The Exorcist III: Underrated Horror Gem?

Okay, horror fans, let's talk The Exorcist III. I know, I know, it lives in the shadow of the original, which is, let's be real, a cinematic landmark. But I recently rewatched it and I'm convinced it's seriously underrated. Directed by William Peter Blatty himself, the author of the book! How did I previously not know that?! It's not your typical 'possessed kid throwing up pea soup' sequel. This is a much more psychological and suspenseful horror film. George C. Scott is fantastic as Lieutenant Kinderman, grappling with these grisly murders that dredge up horrible memories from the first movie. And that hospital scene with the ceiling walker? Pure nightmare fuel. Seriously, I almost jumped out of my skin. It’s such a brilliantly executed jump scare, because really, it is not your typical BOO, loud noise. It is just… unsettling. The way it is framed makes your skin crawl and you can almost feel the coldness creeping from the screen. There are some seriously weird performances too, which I totally appreciate. Brad Dourif as Gemini Killer is both chilling and strangely charismatic (even in an institution) and adds so much to the twisted vibe. Plus, the ending, while maybe a bit controversial with the studio reshoots, is still effective in its own right. It almost feels like two movies stitched together, but in a strangely compelling way. So, what do you guys think? Am I alone in my love for The Exorcist III, or are there other fans out there who appreciate its unique brand of horror? Let me know your thoughts! I'm dying to hear other people's takes on this one, and maybe what your favorite scene is.
