Cyrano (1990): Nose Knows Best...Or Does It?

Okay, so I just finished watching 'Cyrano de Bergerac' (the 1990 version, obvs) and, man, that nose. I mean, seriously, that nose. It's practically a character in itself. And that's kinda what got me thinking... what if Cyrano's nose isn't actually as big as he thinks it is? Hear me out! Maybe it's a totally exaggerated thing in his own head? Like, a self-fulfilling prophecy kind of deal? We only ever see it from his perspective, right? Think about it. He's this amazing swordsman, a brilliant poet, a total badass. He's clearly got like, major confidence issues. So, maybe he latches onto this perceived flaw – the nose – as a reason for why he can't have Roxane. He can then remain the unrequited tragic hero rather than face real rejection. It's easier to blame the nose than to admit you're scared of vulnerability, y'know? Like, what if everyone else sees it as a normal-sized nose, or even a kinda quirky, charming nose? (Okay, probably not charming, but you get my drift). And then there's Christian. He's gorgeous, but dumb as a bag of rocks. Cyrano uses him as a proxy to express his love, but what if Roxane actually fell for Christian's looks AND Cyrano's words? It would mean Roxane may have never truly been into Cyrano at all. Ouch. I know it's just a theory, but it kinda adds another layer of tragicness to the whole thing, doesn't it? It's not just that he's unattractive (allegedly), it's that he's let his insecurities completely define him. Anyways, just my late-night thoughts. What do you guys think? Am I crazy, or am I onto something here?
