Kurosawa's "Dreams": Beautiful, Bizarre, and...Did Anyone Else Cry?

Okay, so I watched "Dreams" (1990) last night, and WHOA. Definitely not your typical rom-com, folks! I knew going in that it was Kurosawa's kinda autobiographical dreamscapes, but I wasn't prepared for how dreamlike (duh, Lauren) it would be. Like, the Van Gogh segment? Visually stunning. I had to pause and just soak it in. And Martin Scorsese as Van Gogh? Genius casting! But that whole sequence where the kid accidentally stumbles into the fox wedding...creepy AF. All those masks! Did anyone else get major "Midsummer" vibes, even though this came way before? But seriously, I wept during the "Crows" segment. Seeing Van Gogh so passionately talk about creating art and seeing the beauty in simple things just got me. Maybe because I'm a creative in my own right and know the struggle. Anyone else connect with that particular dream on a deeper level? Or was it just me being overly sensitive, LOL? And then there's the, uh, nuclear power plant meltdown dream. So bleak and terrifying. It's like, 'okay, Kurosawa, I get it, humanity is doomed!' But even then, it was still visually arresting. It's just... such a strange movie. Beautiful, haunting, and a little bit preachy, maybe. But I guess when you're sharing your dreams with the world, you're allowed to be a little preachy, right? So, thoughts? Favorite segment? Did anyone else find it unexpectedly emotional? And more importantly, did anyone else have weirdly vivid dreams after watching it? Because I dreamt I was painting sunflowers with a talking fox last night, and I kinda think I need a vacation. 🤔
