Nilbog... it's Goblins Spelled Backwards? My Troll 2 Thoughts
Okay, so I finally bit the bullet and watched Troll 2. Yes, that Troll 2. I know, I know, I'm late to the party. As a soundtrack guy, you'd think I'd be all about the Troll franchise, but honestly, I was scared off. The reputation… preceded it. But hey, sometimes the 'so bad it's good' thing really hits, right? Honestly, the lack of score is... criminal, in a way. Like, imagine what a composer could have done to lean into the absurdity? Instead, we get, well, mostly silence. It's almost impressive how little music there is. The acting, the dialogue, the special effects… it all blends into a beautiful, cheesy mess. The scene with the popcorn and the goblins... wow. The family dynamic too.. I mean, who brings green food on vacation?! It's just so... off. I honestly don't know why I'm fixated on this movie or its soundtrack. And don't even get me started on the 'they're eating her!' scene. Horrifyingly hilarious. It's just a trainwreck you can't look away from. I get why people love/hate this movie. Seriously, though, where's the score? If anyone knows of a bootleg soundtrack or even just some cues that are floating around, let me know. So yeah, Troll 2. Not going to lie, I enjoyed it. Is it 'good'? Absolutely not. But is it memorable? Incredibly so. I kind of want to watch it again... and maybe try to figure out how to write my own score for it. Now that would be a challenge.
