Repossessed (1990) - Underrated Soundtrack Gem?!
Okay, so I just revisited "Repossessed" (1990) and, while the movie itself is... well, it's Leslie Nielsen doing his thing, let's just say that... I couldn't help but be struck again by the score. Charles Bernstein composed it and, man, it's got some seriously awesome cues! It's like a blend of his horror and comedy sensibilities. Like, think "A Nightmare on Elm Street" but with way more tongue-in-cheek. Specifically, the scene where Linda Blair (Nancy) starts floating around the living room and the TV's going nuts? That music is chef's kiss. Super creepy, but there's this underlying silliness to it that just works. Bernstein really knew how to use those synth stingers to emphasize the comedic bits. And the main theme? It's so 80s/90s horror-comedy that it's basically a time capsule. I wish there were more readily available cues, but it's a fun hunt. I do think the movie's a bit messy, and some of the jokes haven't aged super well (I mean, it's a product of its time!), but the score absolutely deserves more recognition. I'm wondering if anyone else has paid much attention to it? I've rarely seen it mentioned in soundtrack discussions. Feel free to tell me I'm crazy if you think the score's as goofy as the rest of the movie, haha. But seriously, give it another listen. I think you might be surprised!
