My Father's Glory... So Sweet and Nostalgic!
Okay, fellow family movie lovers, has anyone else seen "My Father's Glory"? I stumbled upon it a few weeks ago and watched it with the kids (ages 9 and 12) and we all loved it! It's a French film, so be prepared for subtitles, but honestly, it adds to the charm. It's about this boy, Marcel, and his family's summer vacations in Provence. What I thought was so lovely was the way it portrayed family life and the simple joys of childhood. The dad, Joseph, is this intellectual science teacher, and you can tell Marcel absolutely adores him. There's this one scene where Joseph is explaining something about nature, and Marcel is just gazing at him with complete admiration. It reminded me so much of how my own kids look at my husband when he's explaining how something works! But it's not all serious; there are plenty of funny moments too, like their attempts to navigate the countryside. I'm curious, for those of you who have seen it, what did you think about Augustine, the mom? I thought she was such a steady, loving presence. Did anyone else feel like the movie was almost too perfect? I worry about showing my kids stuff that's too saccharine, you know? But I think the historical setting and the genuine warmth of the characters kept it grounded. Let me know your thoughts! Also, any recommendations for similar movies? I'm always on the hunt for gems like this. Maybe something else set in Europe with a similar coming-of-age vibe? Thanks in advance!
