Okay, "The Ages of Lulu" Messes You UP. Just a Warning.

Alright, so I just finished watching "The Ages of Lulu" (1990). I knew going in it was gonna be...intense. But wow. Just, WOW. This film is NOT for the faint of heart, seriously. It delves deep into Lulu's (Francesca Neri) journey of self-discovery and sexual awakening after she meets Pablo. I felt SO much for her. Like, her family is so cold and distant, it's easy to see why she's drawn to the attention and...well, yeah, that kind of attention. There's this scene where Lulu is with one of the older men and it's just...ugh. I had to pause it. It's not explicitly graphic, but it's the feeling of exploitation and vulnerability that just hit me hard. Then there are moments of tenderness and genuine connection that make you root for her. Like when she's first with Pablo, and it's just a shared moment of joy. Those contrasts seriously messed with my emotions. Francesca Neri is AMAZING, by the way. She portrays so many complex emotions with just her eyes. I'm not sure I enjoyed watching it, per se, but I definitely think it's a powerful film. It stays with you, makes you think about societal expectations, and the pressures that young women face. It's definitely a movie that sparks discussion, even if it can be uncomfortable at times. Maybe a bit too heavy for a casual movie night though, just sayin'. Ugh, i need to watch something lighthearted now, maybe some puppies and sunshine. Let me know if you guys have seen it and what you thought. I'm dying to discuss!
