My Mother's Castle - Sooo... Did I miss something?
Okay, so I just finished watching "My Mother's Castle" (which is the sequel to "My Father's Glory," right? Making sure I got that straight!). It was...nice. Super charming and that little Marcel is adorable. I like how much he loves his mom, and the whole family dynamic felt really genuine. All the scenery looked gorgeous too, made me want to visit the south of France ASAP. But I'm also kind of confused? The whole movie is about them walking through these private estates to get to their vacation home and saving all this time. The time-saving aspect gets repeated over and over, but is it really that big of a deal? Maybe I'm missing some cultural context? Like, walking 3 hours instead of 6 is a big deal, obviously, but it feels like they were going through so much stress (and legal trouble!) for something that...wasn't that revolutionary? And then the ending...without giving too much away (if anyone hasn't seen it), it felt kinda abrupt? I was expecting some massive fallout after they got caught, but it just kinda... fizzled out? Maybe thats the point? I just feel like the build-up was there, but the resolution felt a bit underwhelming. Maybe I just expected a more dramatic ending. What did you guys think? Did the ending work for you? Also, side note: Is it just me, or was Uncle Jules kinda sus? 👀 Just sayin'...
