A Girl in Australia (1971) - That Ending Tho!
Okay, so I just watched "A Girl in Australia" (pretty obscure, I know!), and I'm still trying to process it. The premise is wild – this super traditional Italian dude trying to find a wife in 70s Australia. Talk about culture clash overload! It's played mostly for laughs, but there were moments where I actually felt bad for the guy, especially when he's just totally bewildered by the women he meets. Like, the scene where he tries to woo that hippie girl with a picnic basket and she just laughs in his face? Brutal. From an editing standpoint, some scenes felt a little long, especially in the middle. They maybe could have trimmed a little fat and tightened the pacing? I think it would have helped with the comedic timing. But overall, I'm impressed they committed to the bit. It feels so dated now, it's almost like a time capsule. But that ending! Seriously, what was the deal with *that* ending? I won't spoil it here, but it felt so abrupt and out of left field. It almost felt like they ran out of money or just got bored, haha. Did anyone else feel like it undermined the whole journey of the main character? Or am i missing something? I'm genuinely curious what others thought, especially about that final scene. Was it supposed to be ironic? A statement? Or just plain weird? Let me know your takes!
