T2: Is the Sarah Connor We See the "Real" Sarah?
Alright cinephiles, jordancinephile back at it. So, I've been marathoning the Terminator franchise again (as you do), and T2 remains a fascinating beast. But I've got a new theory percolating that I wanted to throw out there. We all accept Sarah Connor's transformation from damsel to warrior, but I'm wondering if it goes deeper than just character development. Could the Sarah we see in T2, hardened and borderline unhinged, be a slightly different version of the same person? Hear me out. I'm thinking about the mental institution scenes, specifically. Her drawings, her intensity, her absolute certitude about the future. It's not just trauma; it's almost like she's receiving information, right? I know the obvious answer is that she IS traumatized, but what if the future war, the knowledge of Judgment Day, messed with her in a way that's more than just PTSD? Maybe Kyle Reese's visit and the subsequent pregnancy acted as a kind of conduit, not just for John's existence, but for a bleed-through of future knowledge, or a kind of fractured timeline merge. Think about it: her training John is obsessive, almost cruel at times. Is that just maternal instinct gone into overdrive, or is it something…else? Maybe a pre-programmed directive from a future timeline where she already knows what to do, and how to do it? It's a bit out there, I admit, but it adds another layer to Linda Hamilton's performance, which is already phenomenal. What if she was playing a copy, a slightly altered version of the original Sarah, rather than a perfectly linear progression? I think that would be more interesting than any other theory i've ever heard. And that's why T2 is so rewatchable, right? It's not just the action; it's the layers of complexity baked into the characters and the world. I'm probably wrong, but it's a fun thought experiment, no? Let me know what you think!
