Beauty and the Beast: Overrated Nostalgia Trip?

Okay, okay, before you all come at me with pitchforks, let's talk about Beauty and the Beast. I know, I KNOW, Disney Renaissance, blah blah blah. But honestly, rewatching it as an adult, I'm just... underwhelmed? Everyone fawns over it, but has anyone actually thought about the message they're pushing? Stockholm Syndrome wrapped in a pretty bow, anyone? Belle falls for a dude who literally imprisons her because... he has a nice library? Give me a break. And the songs? Fine, 'Be Our Guest' is catchy, I'll admit. But 'Something There'? It's supposed to be this romantic turning point, but all I see is a girl slowly lowering her standards for a grumpy, hairy dude. Honestly, the enchanted objects are the best part of the movie. Lumiere and Cogsworth are hilarious, and Mrs. Potts is a sweetheart. They deserve their own movie, frankly. Don't even get me started on Gaston. Sure, he's the villain, but at least he knows what he wants and isn't moping around in a castle feeling sorry for himself. Plus, he's got that banger of a tavern song, "Gaston" which is honestly the most fun song in the whole movie. Beast's songs are just depressing. I'm probably gonna get banned from this forum for saying this, but I just don't get the hype. Prove me wrong, I guess, but I'm sticking to my (slightly) informed guns on this one. Maybe it's just me, but honestly, I can think of a dozen animated movies from that era that are way more deserving of the praise. Like, did anyone else actually like Belle and the Beast as a couple? I just never bought it. And that final transformation scene? So anticlimactic. Aaaand I await the downvotes...
