Hook - My Theory: Tinkerbell's Powers STILL Messed with Peter's Memory

Okay, so I just rewatched Hook (1991) for probably the millionth time, and something struck me. We all just kinda accept that Peter Banning is Peter Pan because... well, Wendy says so? But like, what EXACTLY happened with his memory, right? My theory is that Tinkerbell's magic, when she brought him back, wasn't a perfect restoration. Think about it – magic is rarely clean in these kinds of stories. She probably scrambled his brains a little, or maybe suppressed the Pan memories deep down so he could actually function in the real world. The adult Peter's complete obliviousness to Neverland always felt a little… forced, you know? I mean, the Lost Boys instantly recognized him, but he's drawing a complete blank? It's TOO convenient. And it kinda explains why he's such a workaholic jerk. He's compensating, right? He's trying SO HARD to be a normal, successful adult because that's what he thinks he should be. The 'Peter Pan' part of him is locked away, only accessed through snippets of dreams maybe, and he fights it every step of the way. The whole pie fight scene and Rufio calling him 'Pan' feels like a waking-up process, like he's shedding layers of Banning and slowly becoming who he really is. The visual effects during those moments, btw, are still pretty decent for 90s CGI, especially the way they show Peter's internal conflict. Plus, let's be honest, the sound design when he starts remembering is subtle but effective. The faint echoes of Neverland sounds mixing with the office noises – genius! It's like his past is trying to claw its way back in. Maybe I'm overthinking it, but I think Tinkerbell's pixie dust had some serious side effects that nobody really talks about. Curious to hear if anyone else has had similar thoughts. It's definitely something to ponder on another watch. One small thing that always bothered me is that some of the green screen in the flying scenes are not that great. It felt cheap, but I understand that they probably didn't have the kind of tech available today. Overall, the film is just fun to watch.
