Point Break - Is it just me or is this WAY more than just an action flick?
Okay, so I just rewatched Point Break (Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze, duh!), and I'm kinda blown away all over again. Like, on the surface, yeah, it's awesome action, bank robberies with ex-president masks, skydiving... so much 90s goodness. But is it just me, or is there like, a ton of deeper stuff going on? I mean, Bodhi (Swayze) isn't just some adrenaline junky, right? He's got this whole philosophy about freedom and pushing boundaries, even if it's, y'know, robbing banks. And then there's Johnny Utah (Reeves). Starts out as the clean-cut FBI agent, but you can totally see him getting sucked into Bodhi's world. That scene where he's surfing with them, you know he's conflicted. Does anyone else think Utah was low-key jealous of Bodhi's commitment to his lifestyle, even though it was completely illegal and morally questionable? Did he ever actually want to arrest him? I mean, the end suggests a lot. What I don't get is… was Bodhi right? Is society just a construct, and we should all be chasing that 'ultimate wave' regardless of the consequences? I feel like the movie kinda leaves that open to interpretation, which is pretty cool. Is it a perfect movie? Nah, probably not. But it's definitely a lot more thought-provoking than I remember from when I first saw it. So, am I overthinking this? Or is "Point Break" secretly a way deeper movie than its rep suggests? Lemme know what you guys think! Also, which ex-president mask was the best? I'm going with Reagan. Iconic.
