Thelma & Louise: Road Trip Gone WILD - Thoughts?
Okay, so I finally got around to watching Thelma & Louise! I know, I know, super late to the party, but with the kids and everything, movie nights are a rare treat. Anyway, wow. Just...wow. I went in expecting a fun, maybe slightly rebellious road trip movie, and while it started that way, things got intense REAL fast. That scene at the bar? Ugh, so uncomfortable, but sadly, probably all too real for some women. I felt so bad for Thelma (Geena Davis was amazing btw!), just trying to have a little fun. And then Louise (Susan Sarandon, total queen) stepping in...chills! Watching them transform from these kinda meek, stuck-in-a-rut women into these, like, daredevil outlaws was fascinating. I kept thinking, 'What would I do in that situation?' And honestly, I don't know! It definitely gave me pause about taking matters into your own hands, even for a good reason. The Brad Pitt cameo was fun, even though he was a total jerk! And I can see why people were obsessed with him after that. My husband, Mark, walked in during one of his scenes and was not impressed, haha! I will say–the ending. OMG. I'm not gonna spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen it, but I was sobbing. Literally grabbing tissues. Mark thought I was being dramatic (men!), but it felt like the only ending that made sense, even though it was heartbreaking. I appreciate that it's not neatly wrapped up in a bow and that the director allowed these women a sense of agency, even in the face of such dire consequences. It really made me think about women needing to be there for one another and standing up when things are not right. So yeah, definitely a conversation starter. What were your thoughts on the ending? Did you think they could have handled things differently? I'm curious to hear what everyone else thinks! Also, side note: I think my next girls' weekend needs to be with my bestie! Maybe not with, like, guns or anything, but def somewhere fun and maybe a little rebellious ;)
