Okay, Hear Me Out: Is "Hot Shots!" Secretly a Topper Harley Origin Story?

Alright horror freaks, let's take a break from the blood and guts for a minute and talk about something truly terrifying... okay, not really, but definitely underrated: "Hot Shots!" I know, I know, it's a comedy, but stay with me here! I've been rewatching it (for the 100th time, no shame) and I'm starting to think it's more than just a "Top Gun" spoof. It's, like, a super subtle character study of Topper Harley, right? Think about it: he's got this "lone wolf" vibe, clearly dealing with some serious daddy issues, and he's constantly pushing himself to the absolute limit. We see him almost lose it several times! It's played for laughs, sure, but what if underneath all the slapstick, there's a seriously messed up dude? The whole thing with Ramada and her 'deadly' kisses could be interpreted as him subconsciously seeking self-destruction or something. Also, the scene with the chainsaw juggling? That's not normal, folks. Totally giving me unhinged vibes! I’m not saying it’s intentional. I’m pretty sure the Zuckers and Pat Proft weren't going for Bergman levels of introspection. But, you know, sometimes the best theories are the ones that read into stuff way too much. I mean, maybe Topper Harley is actually the precursor to a whole generation of tortured anti-heroes? Or am I just sleep-deprived from watching too many Dario Argento flicks? Let me know your thoughts! Also, if you haven't seen it... go watch it, regardless. It's hilarious and features a lot of really dumb but funny jokes. And seriously, Charlie Sheen in this? Peak comedy himbo. I'm living for it.
