JFK (Oliver Stone) - Conspiracy Theory or Gut-Wrenching Truth?
Okay, horror and thriller peeps, I know JFK isn't technically horror, but the REALITY that Stone presented in that movie? Absolutely terrifying. I just rewatched it last night, and I'm still buzzing – and not in a good way. I mean, regardless of whether you believe everything Garrison put forward, the sheer scale of what's implied is bone-chilling. Costner is fantastic, but the scene that always gets me is when they are running that film over and over. I had nightmares for days after that. What I keep wondering about is David Ferrie. Joe Pesci's performance is off-the-charts creepy, and the whole vibe of him – the wig, the nervous energy, the way he just screams guilt – it's haunting. But how much of Ferrie was Stone's creation, and how much was based on the actual guy? I've read conflicting things, and it's hard to separate fact from fiction, especially with a film like this. Also, and maybe this is just me being a total conspiracy nut, but does anyone else think the scene with "X" (Donald Sutherland) on the monument is the key to the whole damn thing? The whole "military-industrial complex" speech? It feels almost too on the nose, but the way it lays out the motivations... it's hard to shake. I am thinking that I really need to visit that spot. So, what do you guys think? Is JFK a wildly speculative, over-the-top conspiracy fantasy, or does it shine a light on some uncomfortable truths that we, as a society, are afraid to confront? And any good resources about Ferrie that aren't complete garbage takes? Let me know!
