The Last Boy Scout: Underrated Action Gem or Just Plain Corny?

Okay, people, let's talk The Last Boy Scout (1991). I watched it again last night after YEARS, and I'm still torn. On the one hand, it's got Bruce Willis at his most sarcastic, Damon Wayans being a total badass, and a plot that's gloriously convoluted in that classic '90s action movie way. Like, a murdered stripper, a disgraced quarterback, corrupt politicians...it's a whole damn mess, and I kinda love it. The one-liners are so bad they're good, and the action is genuinely intense, especially that car chase scene. The director isn't known, but whoever was behind the cameras did a solid job! But here's the thing... it's also kinda cheesy, right? Some of the acting is... questionable, and the dialogue can be REALLY cringe-worthy at times. There's a scene where Bruce Willis' character is talking to his daughter, and it's just, wow. It aged... poorly. Plus, the whole 'hard-boiled detective with a drinking problem' thing is pretty cliché. I mean, they didn't re-invent the wheel here. Despite its flaws, there's something so watchable about it. Maybe it's the nostalgia, maybe it's the sheer over-the-topness of it all, or maybe it's just Bruce Willis in his prime. I chuckled at his line "Did you find Amelia Earhart yet while you where flying?" It's definitely not high art or anything, but if you're in the mood for some brainless, violent entertainment with a side of '90s attitude, you could do a lot worse. So, what do you guys think? Underrated gem that deserves more love, or a relic of a bygone era that's best left forgotten? Let me know your thoughts! I'm curious to see if anyone else feels the same ambivalence towards this movie as I do.
