The Last Boy Scout: Shane Black at his most BANG!

Alright, action junkies! Let's talk 'The Last Boy Scout.' Director's Tony Scott, BTW. But the real star here is Shane Black's script. Man, I love this movie. Bruce Willis is at his cynical best as Joe Hallenbeck. The one-liners just FLY in this thing. Remember when he throws the guy through the glass door and says, "Welcome to the 90s!"? GOLD. And Damon Wayans as Jimmy Dix, the disgraced football player? Perfect foil. Their chemistry? Off the charts. What makes it so good for me? It's the sheer amount of practical stuff. The exploding car, the fight in the stadium...all looks so RAW. You feel every hit. No CGI crap here, just good old explosions and stuntmen earning their paychecks. Some of the dialogue is a little dated now (the casual sexism, a bit cringe) but honestly, I can usually look past it because the action set pieces are just SO well done. That football stadium shootout at the end? Forget about it! So many squibs. So many dudes flying through the air. And the bad guy? Chelcie Ross chews scenery like nobody's business, I dig it. It's not Shakespeare, people. It's a pure, unapologetic action flick with a darkly comic edge. If you haven't seen it, get on it. If you HAVE seen it, watch it again. Tell me I'm wrong. Only minor quibble? The pacing sags a LITTLE in the middle. But that's being super picky. Overall, one of Shane Black's best, and that's saying something. Willis and Wayans definitely delivered, and the stunt crew deserves a medal. Seriously, go find some behind the scenes footage – amazing stuff.
