Child's Play 3: Underrated or Just...Okay?
Alright action junkies, time for a controversial one. I recently revisited "Child's Play 3", and man, it's... a trip. First off, military school setting? Kinda weird, right? But honestly, I think it actually does add a unique vibe to the whole thing. Plus, the whole 'Chucky trying to transfer his soul into a new kid' plotline was kinda fun. I always felt like the whole voodoo soul transfer thing was a kinda goofy, but this movie somehow makes it work... ish. Now, the action. This is where things get dicey. You gotta remember, this came out when practical effects were still king, and there are some decent stunts in this. That garbage truck scene? Pretty brutal, especially for a horror movie with a freakin' doll as the villain. But, let's be real, the pacing feels OFF in this one. It's like they were trying to juggle too many subplots with Andy's military school struggles and Chucky's shenanigans. I think the biggest problem is that Andy Barclay, even as a teen, feels... bland. Like, he's just reacting to Chucky the whole time. No proactiveness. On a positive note, I really like how dark this movie get at some points. The whole idea of Chucky corrupting the youth is actually pretty terrifying. Also, the scene with Rollins in the barracks is pretty freaky. So, is it a "good" movie? Eh. Probably not. Is it entertaining? Absolutely. It has some cool practical stunts, some dark moments, and hey, who doesn't love a killer doll causing chaos? I wouldn't call it a top-tier horror flick, but I still have a soft spot for its cheesy, over-the-top action. What do you guys think? Total garbage or a guilty pleasure?
