Delicatessen: Screw CGI, THIS is how you do a creepy post-apocalyptic world!

Alright, so I just watched Delicatessen (yeah, I know, I'm late to the party) and holy crap, what a trip! The whole vibe is so messed up, but in a darkly hilarious way. You know how I'm always ranting about practical effects and hating on CGI crutches? This movie is EXACTLY why. It's all about the physicality of the actors, the weird sets, the whole damn thing feels real in a way that no digital apocalypse ever could. The way they constructed that apartment building, all claustrophobic and interconnected... genius! That scene where the two guys are trying to silence the bedsprings? Pure gold! It's like a ballet of awkwardness and desperation. And the butcher... man, that guy is unsettling. Like, you know he's bad news the second you see him sharpening his knives with that creepy smile. But it's not just the gross-out stuff that gets to me. It's the subtle touches, like the way they light the scenes, or the costumes. Everything just screams "this world is going to sh!t in a handbasket". Speaking of the butcher, what's the deal with his meat obsession? Did they ever really explain why he's so obsessed with finding 'tenants'? I mean, I kinda get the scarcity thing, but it feels like there's a deeper, more twisted reason behind it all. Also, anyone else think Louison (the clown) was secretly a badass? He seemed so vulnerable, but then he pulls out the skills when he needs to. That whole underground resistance thing hinted at a much bigger story that I wish they'd explored more! Anyways, I'm def adding this to my list of criminally underrated flicks. If you're tired of seeing the same old CGI-fest apocalypses, check it out. You won't be disappointed... or maybe you will, but you'll definitely be disturbed! Haha.
