Freddy's Dead: More Like Freddy's... Weird, am I right?
Alright, so I just rewatched 'Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare' and, man, it's a trip. As an editor, I'm always looking at pacing and structure, and this one... well, it's all over the place. The whole amnesia plot with Maggie (Lisa Zane) felt kinda forced, and was the 'Freddy in 3D' thing really necessary? It feels like they just threw in every idea they had, regardless of whether it fit the overall narrative. I did appreciate the backstory they gave Freddy, though. Trying to humanize him, even a little bit, added a layer I didn't expect, even if it was kinda hamfisted. The dream sequences are still creative, but they lack the genuine scare factor of the earlier films. The 'video game' sequence was inventive for the time, but it hasn't aged well, either. I'm not gonna lie, though, I still find myself entertained by this entry, even if it's for all the wrong reasons. The camp factor is cranked up to eleven, and some of the one-liners are unintentionally hilarious. Remember when Freddy bashes the one dude with the keyboard during the pinball sequence? I mean, come on, that's gold. The pacing just feels really uneven. Some scenes drag, while others are over way too quickly. But in the end, I think it's the sheer absurdity that makes it stick with me. It's like a trainwreck you can't look away from. Ultimately, "Final Nightmare" is a mixed bag. There's some genuinely interesting ideas buried beneath the surface, but the execution is messy. Also, where was the fear? I'm no expert movie critic, but after 6 films, it feels like the series ran out of steam. The movie is too campy to be scary -- what do you guys think? It's definitely not in my top 3 Freddy films. Maybe top 5 on a good day, but I would've liked to see a tighter, more focused script. Still enjoy it though. Who am I kidding? I love all of the Freddy movies, even the bad ones.
